The Greed of Few

from Passive Progressive by Spire

/

about

This track is a spoken word introduction to Passive Progressive.

lyrics

From the chaos of the universe, all that is known as reality
Emerged

In current day,
We, as humans, are the only life that we know of that possesses
A reasoning mind

Life on Earth has been present and surviving
Even through multiple mass extinctions

Consciousness
It was born with us and within us

We as a whole have never truly been aware of ourselves
Mankind, like children
Has always looked elsewhere for the answers
We must shed this childlike state, and enter
Mankind's adulthood
We must rely on our reasoning minds

Throughout our time we've always held value In
Elements and compounds...
...Silver, Gold
These elements, they've always been present
They've been changing in time through chemistry and physics

Consciousness is truly the rarest of phenomena
The ability to take in with our senses and base opinions
To enjoy or wonder
To question and ponder
These are truly the rarest events in our universe
Sentience is not even common in the grand scheme of life or evolution
Never once have we collectively realized these truths and made
Real attempts to preserve life

The greed of few has always had
More power
Over mankind than
Anything else
And with this greed
Our slow and inevitable
Suicide.
